A memorial service is to be held in Liverpool this month for the late West End producer Bill Kenwright.
The Memorial Service will take place at Liverpool Cathedral on Monday 18 December, starting at 2pm, and run for 90 minutes.
Bill Kenwright, who died in October aged 78, was a prolific West End and Broadway producer. His current productions include Frank and Percy, which is now playing at The Other Palace starring Ian McKellen and Roger Allam; and UK tours of Calendar Girls The Musical, Twelve Angry Men and hit West End musical Blood Brothers.
He was also Chairman of Everton Football Club, becoming Everton’s longest-serving chairman for a century.
The service will be a closed event, but Everton Football Call has put out a statement saying that supporters who wish to attend can register their interest. A ballot will then be held (see web link below).
Last night at the Royal Variety Performance in London, musician and actor Melanie Chisholm of the Spice Girls, and West End star Ben Forster, performed “Tell Me It’s Not True” from Blood Brothers as tribute to Bill Kenwright. The annual charity event, attended this year by The Prince and Princess of Wales, will air on ITV1 in December, with a date to be confirmed. See photos from this year’s event.
Melanie C starred as Mrs Johnstone in the West End’s long-running musical Blood Brothers by Willy Russell in 2009 to 2010 at the Phoenix Theatre, earning the star an Olivier Award nomination for her performance.
There’s no current news on whether a memorial service will be held in London for the producer.
