Big Broadway show Some Like It Hot has posted its closing notices in New York, finishing its run on 30 December 2023.

The show closes just over a year after the $19.5 million musical opened at the Shubert Theatre, and will have played 482 performances.

Now producers have revealed that they are looking at a West End run for the musical in 2025, plus a planned US national tour that kicks off in September 2024.

The West End production will be produced by The Shubert Organization and Neil Meron, in partnership with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG).

Some Like It Hot is based on the 1959 movie written and directed by Billy Wilder. The Broadway show was nominated for 13 Tony Awards in 2022, and scored four gongs – with Casey Nicholaw winning for Best Choreography, Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter for Best Orchestrations, Gregg Barnes for Best Costumes in a Musical, and J. Harrison Ghee for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

The show boasts music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Sister Act, Hairspray) and a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin, and is directed by Casey Nicholaw. Additional material is by Christian Borle and Joe Farrell, with music supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, music direction by Darryl Archibald, and orchestrations by Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter. Vocal arrangements are by Marc Shaiman, dance and incidental music arrangements are by Glen Kelly, with music coordination by Kristy Norter. The production is cast by The Telsey Office’s Bethany Knox.

The cast includes J. Harrison Ghee as Jerry/Daphne, Christian Borle as Joe/Josephine, Adrianna Hicks as Sugar, Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue, Adam Heller as Mulligan, Mark Lotito as Spats, and Angie Schworer as Minnie. The ensemble includes TyNia René Brandon, Ian Campayno, DeMarius Copes, Casey Garvin, Devon Hadsell, Ashley Elizabeth Hale, Jenny Hill, K.J. Hippensteel, Jarvis B. Manning Jr., Brian Martin, Abby Matsusaka, Amber Owens, Kayla Pecchioni, Charles South, Brendon Stimson, Raena White, Julius Williams, and Richard Riaz Yoder.

The creative team also features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair design by Josh Marquette, and make-up design by Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. Karen Moore servies as production stage manager. Juniper Street Productions is production manager, with 101 Productions as general manager. Cheryl Thomas is the hair and skin consultant.

Some Like It Hot is produced by The Shubert Organization and Neil Meron and co-produced by MGM on Stage, Roy Furman, Robert Greenblatt, James L. Nederlander, Kenny Leon, Hunter Arnold, John Gore Organization, The Dalgleish Library Company Group, Sheboygan Conservatory Partners, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Bob Boyett, Cue to Cue Productions, Janet and Marvin Rosen, The Araca Group, Concord Theatricals, Marc Howard, Independent Presenters Network, Juanita Jordan, Jujamcyn Theaters, Henry R. Muñoz III, Ostar, and Mariah Carey. D. S. Moynihan is executive producer.

There are no more details on dates or venues for the West End run, but we’ll bring you news as soon as we have it. It is assumed it will play one of ATG’s London venues.
