Chichester Festival Theatre is on a theatrical roll with its hit musical Singin’ in the Rain currently wowing audiences in the West End, and Sweeney Todd picking up best musical at Sunday’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Their latest transfer is Kiss Me, Kate, which garnered great reviews in Chichester earlier this year and now delivers all over again at the Old Vic Theatre (until 2 March 2013).

Trevor Nunn directs this new production of classic Cole Porter musical which features a fabulous cast including Hannah Waddingham, Adam Garcia, Alex Bourne, David Burt and Clive Rowe.

But what do the critics think? See reviews below from the Telegraph, Evening Standard, FT and more.

The Daily Telegraph
★★★★★
"As a former boss of the RSC who has directed 30 of Shakespeare’s plays, while also proving no mean hand with such musical blockbusters as Cats and Les Mis, staging Cole Porter’s musical about a touring production of The Taming of the Shrew must have seemed like an appointment with destiny for Nunn. And boy, does he deliver.... Frankly, nights at the theatre don’t often come more enjoyable than this."

"Holly Dale Spencer as ditzy nightclub singer Lois excels in my favourite hymn to matrimonial equivocation, Always True To You In My Fashion. As the lovable hoodlums with a taste for the greasepaint, David Burt and Clive Rowe provide the evening’s showstopper with the delightful Brush up Your Shakespeare, milking two deserved encores. Highly kissable."

Financial Times
★★★
"A show which in its 1953 movie version runs for about an hour and 50 minutes here comes in at a whisker under three. It is possible to have too much of a good thing, especially when that thing is merely good and, frustratingly, not quite excellent. It’s too darn lukewarm."
