Matthew Wolfenden will lead the cast of Elf The Musical at the Dominion Theatre this Christmas.
After devoting almost two decades to Emmerdale, TV star Matthew Wolfenden will leave the hit soap opera and return to the stage by first starring as Buddy in the smash-hit musical adaptation of Elf!
Matthew will join previously announced lead casting Georgina Castle (Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia) as Jovie, Rebecca Lock (The Phantom of the Opera, Avenue Q) as Emily Hobbs, Nicholas Pound (Cats, The Rocky Horror Show) as Santa, Kim Ismay (Wicked, Saturday Night Fever) as Debs and Dermot Canavan (Hairspray, Oklahoma!) as Store Manager..
It was also announced today that Tom Chambers – best know for his roles in Father Brown, Holby City and Waterloo Road – will play the role of Walter Hobbs. Ben Lancaster will alternate the role of Buddy at certain scheduled performances.
Also in the cast are Rhys Batten, Evonnee Bentley-Holder, Marie Finlayson, Aimée Fisher, Farirayi Garaba, Alex Given, Morgan Gregory, Samuel John-Humphreys, Keir Hylands, Dominic Lamb, Ellis Linford-Pill, Theo Reece, Chloe Saunders, Heather Scott-Martin, Jessica Spalis, Katie Warsop and Natalie Woods.
The role of Michael will be played by Jude Farrant, Daniel Lee, Oliver Ravelini and Austin Riley.
Returning to London’s Dominion Theatre for a second consecutive year, the 2023 production will mark 20 years since the original release of this hit film.
Based on the much-loved 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell, Elf has a book by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone), with songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer).
ELF is a hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Raised as an elf and never quite fitting in, when Santa tells him the truth, Buddy heads to New York to find his birth father, and discovers the gifts of family and love.
Elf The Musical runs from 15 November 2023 until 6 January 2024
