Full casting has been revealed for a new production of Shakespeare’s Othello which features Iago played collectively by three actors.
Martins Imhangbe is cast in the title role alongside Michael C. Fox (Downton Abbey), Orlando James (Wonder Woman II) and Jeremy Neumark Jones (Jekyll and Hyde) who collectively play Iago.
Rose Riley (Life After Life) will play Desdemona, Rachel Leah-Hosker (Shut Up, I’m Dreaming National Theatre) plays the roles of Emilia & Roderigo, and Ryan O’Doherty (Back to Black) will play Cassio & Brabantio.
Featuring live music composed by Michael C. Fox, this imaginative and fresh take on Othello conceived by director Sinéad Rushe, allows audiences to be fully immersed in the story, and to understand how Iago is able to penetrate Othello’s mind so deeply.
Director Sinéad Rushe said: “As our cast is now fully complete, I am excited that we can throw ourselves into bringing our unique Othello to life, with three actors collectively playing Iago for the first time. In collaboration with sound and music, the ensemble cast will be demonstrating how Othello’s mind is manipulated by a chorus of voices that he starts to hear everywhere as if it’s literally poisoning the atmosphere. Our hope is that audiences will be thrilled by our fast-paced, and fresh take on one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies.”
The production opens at Riverside Studios, London on 6 October, with previews from 4 October, and runs until 29 October 2023.
