Combining a multi-genre pop score with 18th century France, Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist, retells a story that sparked a revolution.
The mixed genre show pushes the boundaries of what a musical should look like; combining a musical, with a gig, and even ballet, to take audiences to 18th Century France and the court of King Louis and Marie Antoinette.
Cake is directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie (In the Heights; Jesus Chris Superstar) and has a book by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia). The show’s pop, R&B and rap score is by Tasha Taylor Johnson and Jack McManus.
The show started its life as part of the new musical festival MTFestUK, and ran at the Turbine Theatre in London from 30 January to 11 February 2023, as well as a recent UK tour including The Lowry Salford and the Curve in Leicester.
