The Kiln Theatre in North London has revealed casting for its forthcoming new British musical Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).
Dujonna Gift (Hamilton) will star as Robin, and Olivier Award winner Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen) will feature as Dougal.
The pair are reunited after both starring in Dear Evan Hansen when the show ran in the West End at the Noel Coward Theatre.
The show is written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan (Catastrophe Bay), and runs at the Kiln Theatre from 9 November to 23 December 2023.
A previous version of the show called The Season scooped the Stage Debut Award for Best Composer/Lyricist award in 2020.
The story sees a naive and impossibly upbeat Brit called Dougal fly to New York for the Dad he’s never known’s second wedding. Waiting for him at the airport is Robin, the sister of the bride – a native New Yorker who is stressed and late for work.
Instant attraction? Definitely not. But with an extravagant wedding approaching and the city at their feet – anything could happen.
The show is directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson – the choreographer of Broadway’s Merrily We Roll Along starring Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez.
The creative team also includes Design by Soutra Gilmour, Lighting Design by Jack Knowles, Sound Design by Tony Gayle, Musical Director Sean Green, and Orchestrations by Lux Pyramid. Casting is by Julia Horan CDG, the Associate Director is Claira Vaughan, and the Kiln-Mackintosh Resident Assistant Director is Jessica Mensah.
Dujonna Gift’s theatre credits include Hamilton (Victoria Palace Theatre), Motown: The Musical (Shaftesbury Theatre), Dear Evan Hansen (Noël Coward Theatre), and Caroline, Or Change (Playhouse Theatre). On film, her credits include the forthcoming Snow White.
Sam Tutty’s theatre credits include the title role in Dear Evan Hansen (Noël Coward Theatre – Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical), and Once on This Island (Southwark Playhouse). His TV work includes Hollyoaks; and for film, Four Minutes Warning and Romeo and Juliet.
Coming up at the Kiln ahead of Two Strangers is the UK premiere of Lynn Nottage’s drama Mlima’s Tale, from 14 September to 21 October 2023.
