Rebecca musical announces West End casting

The cast has been announced for a new musical based on Daphne Du Maurier’s novel Rebecca.

The show’s English speaking premiere will take place at Charing Cross Theatre in London, running from 4 September to 18 November 2024.

Rebecca will star Richard Carson (Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!) as Maxim de Winter, Lauren Jones (Bonnie & Clyde) as the second Mrs de Winter, and Kara Lane (The Addams Family – the Musical Comedy, Mary Poppins) as Mrs Danvers.

Other cast include Alex James-Ward, Piers Bate, Sarah Harlington, David Breeds, Amanda Minihan, Neil Moors, Nicholas Lumley, Nigel-Joseph Francis, Elliot Swann, Scott McClure, Emily Apps, Melanie Bright, Gail MacKinnon, Tarisha Rommick, James Mateo-Salt, and Rosie Glossop.

The show boasts 22 original songs, written by German composers Michael Kunze (original book and lyrics, and English lyrics) and Sylvester Levay (music and orchestrations), with an English translation and English lyrics by Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les Liaisons dangereus).

Kunze & Levay’s other musicals include Witches, Witches; Elisabeth; Mozart!; Marie Antoinette; and Lady Bess.

The show had its world premiere at the VBW-theatre Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria in September 2006, and has subsequently had productions in 12 countries and in 10 languages.

Directed by Alejandro Bonatto, the show’s Choreographer is Ron Howell, Musical Supervisor/Conductor Robert Scott, Production Designer Nicky Shaw, Lighting Designer David Seldes, Sound Designer Andrew Johnson, Projection Designer Matt Powell, Costume Supervisor Jess Richardson-Smith, and Casting Stephen Crockett/Grindrod Burton Casting.
