Rehearsal photos of Alan Ayckbourn's A Chorus of Disapproval at the Harold Pinter Theatre. This month Alan Ayckbourn's comedy A Chorus of Disapproval is set for a big-name revival at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="240"] Rob Brydon rehearsing for A Chorus of Disapproval. Photo: Catherine Ashmore[/caption] Directed by Trevor Nunn, the play stars Rob Brydon (Gavin & Stacey) making his West End stage debut, alongside Olivier Award winner Nigel Harman (Shrek The Musical) and British Comedy Award winner Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty). It is the first time that the play has been produced in the West End since the National Theatre transferred its hit production in 1986. In the comedy, there is chaos when the Pendon Amateur Light Operatic Society’s production of The Beggar’s Opera goes off the rails. It's only when shy, handsome widower Guy (Nigel Harman) joins the group that things start to look up and Guy becomes a big hit with the show's hysterical director Dafydd (Rob Brydon) and the show’s leading ladies, including Dafydd’s wife Hannah (Ashley Jensen). Romantic rivalry, petty squabbles and back-stage bitching means that there is plenty more going on behind-the-scenes than on the stage in Ayckbourn's timeless, classic comedy. A Chorus of Disapproval begins previews on 17 September 2012. The creative team includes Trevor Nunn as director, designs by Robert Jones, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Fergus O’Hare and music direction by Steven Edis. Other cast members include Jessica Ellerby, Barrie Rutter, Paul Thornley, Susan Tracy, Banham, Daisy Beaumont, Georgia Brown, Rob Compton, Matthew Cottle and Steven Edis. Photos by Catherine Ashmore.
