What is Shucked the musical About?
Set in the small, corn-loving town of Cob County, Shucked follows the story of sweethearts Maizy and Beau, whose wedding plans are derailed when their beloved corn crop begins to mysteriously wither. With the fate of their town hanging in the balance, Maizy ventures beyond the borders of her sheltered community – and what she discovers sets off a riotous chain of events full of twists, turns, and a shady con artist with a plan of his own.
All-Star Creative Team & Cast
With a book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), a score by Grammy Award-winning duo Brandy Clark & Shane McAnally, and direction by Tony Award-winning legend Jack O’Brien (Hairspray), this is Broadway comedy at its best. This fabulous UK premiere stars Downton Abbey’s Sophie McShera as Maizy and West End stars Ben Joyce (Back to the Future the Musical) as Beau and Georgina Onuorah (Kiss Me, Kate, Hamilton, The Wizard of Oz) as Lulu.
Shucked is a laugh-out-loud, wholly original Broadway musical comedy that pays loving tribute to classics like The Book of Mormon, Oklahoma! and The Music Man. With a delightfully quirky tone and a heart as big as Cob County, this critically acclaimed musical features toe-tapping tunes like “Woman of the World”, “Somebody Will”, and “Independently Owned”. If you’re looking for a feel-good musical in London packed with charm, wit, and irresistible songs, Shucked is the show to see.
