Shucked, the Tony nominated new Broadway musical will transfer to London’s West End in 2024.
The news, announced via the shows twitter profile said “Breaking news: Shucked is popping up in London next year!!! 🌽 Keep your ear to the ground for more information.”
Dates, venue and casting are all to be announced, however the show will run in one of Cameron Mackintosh’s theatres.
“I’m delighted to confirm that London is going to get Shucked in one of my theatres next year! Shucked is that rarity: a completely original musical and the funniest show since The Book of Mormon, with a terrifically tuneful rollicking country and western score. It’s snuck up on Broadway and is proving to be the most talked about hit of the season. The corn at the heart of Shucked will have you husky with limitless laughter!”West End producer Cameron Mackintosh
Nominated for 9 Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL, Shucked features a book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), a score by the Grammy® Award-winning songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray).
Shucked is a wholly original new musical comedy that gives a nod to past Broadway favourites – The Book of Mormon, Oklahoma! and particularly The Music Man most recently revived with Hugh Jackman – adding a playfully hokey twist.
Billed as a story about an unlikely hero, an unscrupulous con man, and a battle for the heart & soil of a small town, this corn-fed, corn-bred American musical promises to satisfy your appetite for great musical theatre.
Set in a rural community isolated from the world by a wall of economy-driving corn stalks, Shucked follows what happens when the crop begins to fail, and a young woman leaves behind Cob County to try and find someone who can save her town.
