Myles Frost will star as Michael Jackson in the West End premiere of MJ The Musical; the show opens at the Prince Edward Theatre in London next year.
Frost originated the role of Michael Jackson in New York where he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance. He also made history, becoming the youngest individual actor to ever win the award. Myles Frost is the first member of the London cast to be announced.
Directed and choreographed by Royal Ballet Associate Artist Christopher Wheeldon OBE (An American in Paris), who won the Tony Award for Best Choreography of a Musical for MJ on Broadway the show features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winning writer Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat).
Myles Frost said: “Working with Chris has always been amazing. He is a visionary and knowing that we’re now going into his stomping ground, I’m ready for that ride! I’m super excited to bring this show to the West End and to make this a magical experience for everybody”.
Christopher Wheeldon said: “I am naturally thrilled to have Myles opening the London company with his knockout award-winning performance. Myles embodies the artistic spirit of MJ but allows his own glorious talent to shine through his portrayal. Working closely with Myles to achieve this is in part what has made this show such a success on Broadway.”
Centred around the making of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour, MJ The Musical goes beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star to offer a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Jackson to legendary status.
MJ The Musical won 4 Tony Awards on Broadway in 2022, and was nominated for 10. The London production will begin previews on Wednesday 6 March 2024 with an official press night on Wednesday 27 March 2024.
Tickets for MJ The Musical at the Prince Edward Theatre London go on sale 24 May 2023.
