Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard is set for a major new revival this September 2023, at the West End’s Savoy Theatre.
The production will be directed by Jamie Lloyd (A Doll’s House) and star Nicole Scherzinger (Cats) as Norma Desmond.
The show will play the Savoy Theatre for a strictly limited 16 week run from September 2023, with the dates to be announced.
The production marks the first show coming out of the new joint venture Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals announced last November, between producer Michael Harrison and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The show is also produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company and Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Gavin Kalin Productions and Wessex Grove (A Little Life, A Strange Loop).
Sunset Boulevard has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, based on the Billy Wilder film.
Jamie Lloyd is promising a bold new vision for one of Lloyd Webber’s most iconic musicals, which opened 30 years ago at the Adelphi Theatre.
2023 also marks the 10th anniversary of The Jamie Lloyd Company, with previous productions including their current Tony Award nominated revival of A Doll’s House on Broadway starring Jessica Chastain, and the forthcoming National Theatre production of Lucy Prebble’s The Effect starring Paapa Essiedu and Taylor Russell.
Sunset Boulevard features songs including With One Look, The Perfect Year and As If We Never Said Goodbye.
Nicole Scherzinger is a multi award-winning performer, singer, actress, dancer and TV personality. Formerly a member of best-selling music group the Pussy Cat Dolls, Scherzinger voiced the character of Sina in Disney’s animated blockbuster Moana, starred in ABC’s remake of Dirty Dancing, and most recently was a panellist on The Masked Singer on FOX in the US. Her other stage productions include Cats at the London Palladium.
Director Jamie Lloyd said in a statement: “After our reappraisal of Evita at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, I’m very excited to rediscover another iconic Lloyd Webber musical — and Sunset Boulevard is one of his most thrilling, complex and atmospheric scores. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to create a new production of this fascinating piece with the extraordinary Nicole Scherzinger.”
Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “Nicole is one of the finest singers I have worked with, and I can’t wait to get started on this exciting show with her and the rest of this brilliant team.”
