Watch: MJ The Musical – Meet the creative team of the new West End show

Hit Broadway show MJ The Musical is heading to London next year, playing the Prince Edward Theatre from 6 March 2024.

Producers of the show have dropped a new video featuring the creative team explaining what MJ The Musical is all about, and how they created the smash-hit musical.

The video includes two-time Pulitzer Prize winning writer Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat, The Secret Life of Bees), who wrote the book of the show; and Royal Ballet Associate Artist Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris), who directs and choreographs the London production, and who won a Tony Award for Best Choreography of a Musical for his work on MJ on Broadway.

MJ The Musical also won 3 other Tony Awards on Broadway in 2022, and was nominated for 10.

The London production starts previews on 6 March 2024 with an official press night on Wednesday 27 March 2024. Tickets go on general sale in the UK on Wednesday 24 May 2023.

One of the greatest entertainers of all time, Michael Jackson’s artistry is showcased in the musical, which centres on the making of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour. MJ strives to go beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star, to offer a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Jackson into legendary status.

The show promises to electrify audiences with dozens of the most iconic songs in music history, including Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, Beat It and Smooth Criminal.

Casting for the London production is to be confirmed, and other members of the creative team include Scenic Design by Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), Lighting Design by Natasha Katz (Once), Costume Design by Paul Tazewell (Hamilton), Sound Design by Gareth Owen (Come From Away), Projection Design by Peter Nigrini (Dear Evan Hansen), and Hair & Wig Design by Charles LaPointe (The Color Purple). Musical Supervision is by David Holcenberg (Matilda The Musical), and the Orchestrations and Arrangements are by David Holcenberg and Jason Michael Webb (The Color Purple).

Currently playing at the Prince Edward Theatre is Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations, booking to 1 October 2023.
