Performances of Brokeback Mountain have started at @sohoplace theatre in London, starring Mike Faist (Dear Evan Hansen, West Side Story) as Jack and Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea, Boy Erased) as Ennis.
This highly anticipated stage adaptation of Annie Proulx’s acclaimed novel, and subsequent Oscar winning film, is adapted by Ashley Robinson, and directed by Jonathan Butterell.
The music that punctuates and illustrates the action of the play is written by The Feeling’s Dan Gillespie Sells (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), and is performed live by Fairground Attraction’s Eddi Reader as The Balladeer, with her band.
Producers have released another song from the show, with Eddi Reader singing “Hale Strew River”.
Also watch another song performed by Eddi from Brokeback Mountain, and watch Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges talk about the show.
The cast also includes Emily Fairn (The Responder) as Alma, Paul Hickey as Older Ennis, and Martin Marquez as Joe/Bill/Jack’s Father.
Eddi Reader recently commented about the show on Twitter, saying: “I cannot explain the gestalt emotional impact of telling this story to an audience- last night transformed my heart, broke it, then put it back together more in love with truth and love. Mike, Lucas, Emily, Paul, Martin, Sophie, took me to another level”.
Soho Place has also released footage of the show’s curtain call:
Also in the creative team are Tom Pye (Set & Costume Design), David Finn (Lighting Design), Christopher Shutt (Sound Design), Shaheen Baig (Casting Director), Tommy Ross-Williams (Intimacy Director), Kevin McCurdy (Fight Director), Phil Wilding (Production Manager), Zeb Lalljee (Costume Supervisor), Sam Cox (Wigs Maker/Supervisor), Lily Mollgaard (Props Supervisor), and Mary Irwin and Ben Furey (Vocal/Dialect Coach).
