Southwark Playhouse has released rehearsal photos for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button which begins performances at the South London theatre later this month.
Olivier Award winner Jamie Parker (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The History Boys) and Molly Osborne (Fiddler on the Roof, The Sez Party) lead the cast of the new musical. The 12-strong cast is completed by an actor-musician ensemble featuring Matthew Burns, Jonathan Charles, Oonagh Cox, Anna Fordham, Philippa Hogg, Damien James, Ann Marcuson, Jack Quarton, Benedict Salter, and Tonny Shim.
The folk musical returns to Southwark Playhouse following a limited run in 2019. The show is based on a short story from F. Scott Fitzgerald – him of The Great Gatsby fame, and most people know the story from David Fincher’s 2008 movie starring Brad Pitt as a man who ages in reverse, and with Cate Blanchett as his love interest.
Billed as an “extraordinary, heart-wrenching, and timeless tale of a love that defies all odds”, the show is adapted, written and directed by Jethro Compton (Wolf’s Blood), and with songs by Darren Clark (These Trees Are Made of Blood, The Wicker Husband).
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will run from 22 May 2023 until 1 July 2023 at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
