Southwark Playhouse has announced casting for its forthcoming world premiere of Under the Kundè Tree at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
The cast includes award-winning actress Selina Jones (Raised by Wolves, KAOS), Fode Simbo (Andor, Vigil, Fisherman’s Friends: One and All), Amma-Afi Osei (Red Brick, The Poison Belt), Yinka Awoni (I May Destroy You, This Is Going to Hurt), and Clarisse Makundul (Paris Memories).
Set during the ‘Hidden War’ of Cameroonian Independence in the 1950s, Under the Kundè Tree is written by Clarisse Makundul, inspired by her grandmother’s generation in Cameroon.
Directed by Ebenezer Bamgboye, the play promises to highlight the challenges that women faced every day during this violent and turbulent period, which is an overlooked and unknown part of world history.
The creative team also includes Set & Costume Design by Niall McKeever, Lighting Design by Arnim Friess, Sound Design by Max Pappenheim, Movement Director Rose Ryan, Dramaturgs Gregoire Colin and Laure Bachelier-Mazon, and Stage Manager Olivia Wolfenden.
Under the Kundè Tree is playing at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 24 May to 17 June 2023.
