A date has been set for Australian musicals star Josh Piterman to join the cast of Cameron Mackintosh’s Les Miserables at the Sondheim theatre in London.
Piterman was due to join the rest of the new Les Mis cast, including Stewart Clarke as Javert and Lucie Jones as Fantine, on 27 March 2023, but had to pull out due to an injury with his throat.
He will now join Les Miserables, in the role of Jean Valjean, from 24 April 2023.
The actor went on Instagram a few weeks ago to explain his injury, and how his dream of getting a break between performing Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera in Australia, and coming to London for Les Miserables, was unexpectedly realised!
Other cast in the London production include Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier, Harry Chandler as Enjolras, Gerard Carey as Thénardier, Robert Tripolino as Marius, Nathania Ong as Éponine, Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette.
Written Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Miserables is London’s – and the world’s – longest-running musical of all time, and features songs including I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Stars, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Master Of The House and many more.
