New musical Cake has put out production photos as its starts its UK tour.
The show plays the Mayflower Studios, Southampton (13 – 25 March 2023), The Lowry, Salford (27 March – 1 April 2023), The Drum, Plymouth (3 – 6 April 2023), the Curve Theatre, Leicester (17 – 22 April 2023) and the Theatre Royal, Norwich (24 – 29 April 2023).
Cake combines riotous pop music – penned by Tasha Taylor Johnson and Jack McManus – with the feeling of a gig and a ballet, transporting you to 18th century France to retell the story of Marie Antoinette and the French revolution.
The show’s cast features West End star Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins) as Marie Antoinette, Renée Lamb (Six The Musical) as Jeanne, B Terry as Nicole, Travis Ross as Cardinal, plus Ope Sowande and Megan Bryony Gibbs in the ensemble, and Lukas Hunt and Amie Hibbert as swings.
Cake is directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie (In the Heights; Jesus Chris Superstar) and has a book by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia).
The show was originally commissioned by Turbine Theatre and The Other Palace artistic director Paul Taylor-Mills, based on his idea.
