West End production of MJ The Musical begins search for Michael Jackson

An open casting call for the West End production of MJ The Musical has been announced.

Open auditions for the lead role in MJ The Musical will be held on Saturday 18 March in Manchester, Sunday 19 March in Birmingham and Sunday 26 March in London. Registration for all venues opens at 10am and closes at 12-noon.

Casting agents are looking for exceptional male singers – high tenors with falsetto – with strong acting and dancing skills to portray or cover the lead role of Michael Jackson.

Attendees are asked to prepare a Michael Jackson song or pop song that shows off their voice and range. They are required to bring sheet music, a photo and cv. They must be 18 years old and eligible to work in the UK. See full details in tweet below.

Rehearsals are due to start in December 2023 with previews scheduled to begin on Wednesday 6 March 2024 with an official press night on Wednesday 27 March 2024.

Created by Tony Award-winning Director/Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris, After The Rain) and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat), with music by Michael Jackson, MJ The Musical won 4 Tony Awards from 11 nominations.

One of the greatest entertainers of all time, Michael Jackson’s artistry is showcased in the musical, which centres on the making of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour. MJ strives to go beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star, to offer a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Jackson into legendary status.

Prior to MJ The Musical, the Prince Edward Theatre welcomes another Broadway transfer, Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations, running at the Prince Edward from 31 March 2023 booking to 1 October 2023.
