Stage and screen star Sheridan Smith went on BBC’s The One Show last week to talk about her starring role in Shirley Valentine at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.
This West End revival of Willy Russell’s hilarious one-woman comedy will play the Duke of York’s from 17 February to 3 June 2023.
Sheridan talks about how nervous she is to be taking on the iconic role, and how its the part of a lifetime for her.
The play is about a working-class, middle-aged housewife from Liverpool who is bored with her life, and dreams of excitement.
That culminates in her upping sticks and leaving, to go to a Greek Island for fun and adventure.
Sheridan’s recent TV work has included David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny Strikes Again, and Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything for Sky. On stage, she has played in productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Funny Girl, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hedda Gabler, Legally Blonde and Flare Path.
Shirley Valentine is directed by Matthew Dunster (2.22 A Ghost Story).
