Rebecca musical to premiere at Charing Cross Theatre

A musical adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s classic novel Rebecca is finally getting its English language premiere at the Charing Cross Theatre in London.

The show, which features 22 original songs, will start performances at the Charing Cross Theatre on 4 September 2023, playing to 18 November 2023.

Rebecca is written by German composers Michael Kunze (original book and lyrics, and English lyrics) and Sylvester Levay (music and orchestrations), with an English translation and English lyrics by Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les Liaisons dangereus).

The show had its world premiere at the VBW-theatre Raimund Theater in Vienna, Austria, in September 2006, and has subsequently had productions in 12 countries and in 10 languages. The English language premiere was originally going to be on Broadway in 2013 but this was cancelled.

Directed by Alejandro Bonatto, the show’s Choreographer is Ron Howell, Sound Designer Andy Johnson and Casting David Grindrod, with further creatives and cast to be announced.

Kunze & Levay’s other musicals include Witches, Witches; Elisabeth; Mozart!; Marie Antoinette; and Lady Bess.
