Rehearsal photos have come in for the Almeida’s forthcoming revival of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire starring Paul Mescal, Lydia Wilson and Anjana Vasan.
The play is directed by Rebecca Frecknall (Cabaret), who also directed Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke at the Almeida in 2018.
A Streetcar Named Desire plays at the Almeida from 10 December 2022 to 4 February 2023.
The cast is led by Paul Mescal (Normal People) as Stanley, Lydia Wilson (Ripper Street) as Blanche, and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) as Stella. Other cast include Dwane Walcott (Machinal) as Mitch, plus Eduardo Ackerman, Ralph Davis (Much Ado About Nothing; The Tempest; King Lear Shakespeare’s Globe), Janet Etuk (I, Joan; Henry VIII Shakespeare’s Globe), Gabriela García (Strictly Ballroom West End), Tom Penn (Midnight Movie Royal Court) and Jabez Sykes (Rock / Paper / Scissors Sheffield Theatres).
Alongside Frecknall, the creative team includes Madeleine Girling (set design); Merle Hensel (costume design); Lee Curran (lighting design); Peter Rice (sound design); Angus MacRae (Composer); and Julia Horan CDG (casting director).
Almeida shows currently in the West End include The Doctor starring Juliet Stevenson, at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 11 December 2022; and coming to the Noel Coward Theatre next year is Peter Morgan’s Patriots starring Tom Hollander.
