Casting for the new UK tour of Steel Magnolias has been announced.
The star-studded ensemble cast will feature Laura Main (best known as Sister Bernadette in BBC One’s Call the Midwife), Diana Vickers (The X Factor star who has gone on to lead roles in many theatre productions including Dial M For Murder and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice) and Lucy Speed (known for her television roles on EastEnders and The Bill, and as a new cast member on BBC Radio 4’s The Archers).
Completing the cast are Caroline Harker (A Touch of Frost) and Elizabeth Ayodele (Playboy of the West Indies, Small Island). Jacqueline Jossa (EastEnders) was previously announced to appear but has withdrawn from the tour.
Written by Robert Harling, and turned into a hit film starring Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, Darryl Hannah and Julia Roberts, the Steel Magnolias will kick off on 19 January 2023 in Bromley.
Other dates for the tour include Richmond, Sheffield, Guildford, Bath, Salford, Brighton, Southend, Birmingham, High Wycombe, Leicester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Malvern, Exeter, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Glasgow, Dublin, Hull, Swindon, Dartford, Leeds and Northampton, with the tour finishing on 22 July 2023.
