The Almeida Theatre has unveiled a first-look portrait photo of the three principle cast of their new production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire.
Directed by Rebecca Frecknall (Cabaret), the revival starts at the Almeida on 10 December 2022, running to 4 February 2023.
The cast of A Streetcar Named Desire is led by BAFTA-winner Paul Mescal (Normal People) as Stanley, Lydia Wilson (Ripper Street) as Blanche, and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) as Stella.
The cast also includes Dwane Walcott (Machinal) as Mitch, plus Eduardo Ackerman, Ralph Davis (Much Ado About Nothing; The Tempest; King Lear Shakespeare’s Globe), Janet Etuk (I, Joan; Henry VIII Shakespeare’s Globe), Gabriela García (Strictly Ballroom West End), Tom Penn (Midnight Movie Royal Court) and Jabez Sykes (Rock / Paper / Scissors Sheffield Theatres).
Rebecca Frecknall also directed Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke at the Almeida in 2018.
Alongside Frecknall, the creative team includes Madeleine Girling (set design); Merle Hensel (costume design); Lee Curran (lighting design); Peter Rice (sound design); Angus MacRae (Composer); and Julia Horan CDG (casting director).
Almeida shows currently in the West End include The Doctor starring Juliet Stevenson, at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 11 December 2022; and coming to the Noel Coward Theatre next year is Peter Morgan’s Patriots starring Tom Hollander.
