New musical Roman Holiday to open at Theatre Royal Bath

A new musical stage adaptation of Roman Holiday will receive its UK premiere at Theatre Royal Bath next year.

Based on the multi Academy Award winning film that made Audrey Hepburn an international star, the new stage musical will play a limited run at Bath from 10 June to 1 July 2023.

Adapted for the stage by Kirsten Guenther and Paul Blake, who co-wrote the stage version of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, the musical will feature the unforgettable music of Cole Porter including Easy To Love, You Do Something To Me, In The Still Of The Night, Just One Of Those Things and Night and Day.

Roman Holiday is directed by double Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Sams, whose directing credits include Noises Off in the West End and Jason Robert Brown’s 13. He also wrote the script for the West End production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and translated the award-nominated Amour on Broadway.

Roman Holiday is a whirlwind 24-hour adventure of romance, European old-world glamour and royal charm, as a privileged princess escapes her diplomatic dinners and duties whilst on a tour of Europe for a chance encounter with an American reporter.

Cast and further creative team will be announced in due course.

Roman Holiday is presented by Theatre Royal Bath in arrangement with Paul Blake and BFI Productions.

A production of the show had been due to open at Curve Leicester in 2020 directed by Nikolai Foster.

Roman Holiday will run from 10 June to 1 July 2023 at Theatre Royal Bath.
