New theatre podcast launches hosted by Drew McOnie and Siân Prime

The Drew McOnie Company and Goldsmith’s University have launched a new theatre podcast, hosted by Drew McOnie and Goldsmith’s Uni Academic Siân Prime.

The Theatre Blueprint podcast aims to unearth the mysteries of creating work for the stage, shining a light on practitioners from every corner of the collaborative process and delving into the multiple pathways into a career in the performing arts.

Presented by Olivier Award-winning director and choreographer Drew McOnie and Academic Lead for Enterprise at Goldsmiths University, Siân Prime, the Theatre Blueprint podcast is for theatre lovers, those curious about joining the theatre community, current practitioners and anyone wanting to explore the entire ecosystem of the live theatre industry.

Drew McOnie said: “As theatre makers, our world is one of limitless magic hanging in the dark and all too often the linchpins of our productions are not bought into the light to be applauded. It’s time for credit to be placed firmly where credit is due. This podcast lifts the curtain on the small army that, like a swan’s legs beneath the surface of the water, work tirelessly to provide a smooth voyage into the imagination”.

Siân Prime said: “This podcast is for theatre lovers, aspiring members of the theatre community, or quite simply anyone intrigued by how this art form, that requires so much passion, truth and humanity to simply exist, relies on the many unique techniques, talents, hard work and the immeasurable amount of resilience of its practitioners. All in the name of human connection”.

Guests on the series include Timothy Sheader (Artistic Director, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), Nia Janis (Producer, Playful Productions), Uzma Hammed (Writer and Dramaturg), Julia Cheng (Choreographer), Tyrone Huntley (Actor), Grant Olding (Composer), Ebony Molina (Associate Director & Choreographer), E.M. Parry (Set and Costume Designer), Xana (Sound Designer) and Jessica Hung Han Yun (Lighting Designer), with many more practitioners featured across the series. Interviews trace an arc from how an initial idea becomes a show which employs not only actors and directors but designers, casting directors, marketing teams, dramaturgs, education and outreach professionals, wig and make up teams and everyone in between.

The first three episodes are released today (Monday 7 November) with episodes then released weekly each Monday.

The Theatre Blueprint is a collaboration between the McOnie Company and SYNAPSE, the programme of business development support at Goldsmiths, University of London. It is produced by Scratchpost Productions.

The series is available to stream and subscribe to on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
