The West End premiere of Ride – a new musical

Charing Cross Theatre present the West End premiere of Ride – a new musical charting one woman’s radical act and exploring the lies we tell to escape ourselves. 

This new musical by Freya Catrin Smith and Jack Williams, directed by Sarah Meadows, was nominated for the Best Musical Theatre Book Writing in the 2022 Writers Guild Awards and an earlier try-out was named VAULT Festival Show of the Week and won an Off West End OFFCOM Award.

Ride is booking from 25 August 2022 until 17 September 2022 at Charing Cross Theatre, London.

What is Ride about?

Ride is the extraordinary true story of a woman with large plans and an even larger imagination comes to life in Ride.

The year is 1895, and Annie Londonderry returns to America as the first woman to ever cycle around the globe.

She’s a brave pioneer and wants to pitch her story to the New York World, but she can’t do it alone. Luckily, she doesn’t have to. Joined by secretary Martha Smith, they begin to share Annie’s fantastical adventures. However, the cracks soon start to show and leave Annie in the position of confronting a past she wants to leave unexplored.

Reviews have started to come in for RIDE- A New Musical at Charing Cross Theatre by Freya Catrin Smith and Jack Williams, and directed by Sarah Meadows. The cast includes Liv Andrusier (Annie Londonderry), Yuki Sutton (Martha), and Amy Parker (Alternate Annie / Cover Martha). The musical is set in 1895, and Annie Londonderry has returned victorious to America, hailed as the first woman ever to cycle around the world. She’s pioneering, she’s plucky, and she’s pitching her story to the men who run the newspapers. From the infamous wager that set her journey in motion, to her freewheeling adventures with captains, cowboys, and customs officials, Annie just knows her tales will spin readers into a frenzy.  But as she approaches rough terrain, and unexpected paths throw her off balance, can Annie regain her footing, or will she confront the past she left behind?  Ride was nominated for the Best Musical Theatre Book Writing in the 2022 Writers Guild Awards, and the title song from the show nominated for the 2020 Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize.
