Theatre History
The Southwark Playhouse Theatre Company was founded in 1993 by Juliet Alderdice and Tom Wilson, to produce high quality accessible theatre, and act as a major resource for the local community.
Southwark Playhouse Elephant opened on 19 January 2023.
The venue joins sister venue Southwark Playhouse Borough, located at 77-85 Newington Causeway.
The first Southwark Playhouse theatre was a disused workshop at 62 Southwark Bridge Road, before they moved in 2006 to the vaults beneath Platform One of London Bridge railway station, which was their home from 2007 to 2013. They moved to 77-85 Newington Causewasy in 2013.
