Come From Away will close in London, four years after opening at the Phoenix Theatre, with its final performance set for 7 January 2023.
Written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the musical tells the true story of 38 planes that were ordered to land in Gander, Newfoundland, on Sept. 11, 2001, following the World Trade Center attack. The musical follows several passengers from the planes as they are housed by residents of Gander, and develop long lasting friendships in the shadow of a tragedy.
The international hit musical opened at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End in February 2019 where it ran continuously until all theatres shutdown in March 2020 due to the covid pandemic. It resumed performances on 22 July 2021 and will have played 1,048 performances in London when it takes a final bow on 7 January 2023. Tickets are now on sale for the final booking period.
The show won Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards with the Broadway production nominated for seven Tony Awards including for best musical.
The West End cast features Alice Fearn, Tarinn Calender, Alasdair Harvey, Kate Graham, Chiara Baronti, Jenna Boyd, Ricardo Castro, Mark Dugdale, James Doherty, Mary Doherty, Stuart Hickey, Harry Morrison, Jonathan Andrew Hume, Sorelle Marsh, Alexander McMorran, Micha Richardson, Emma Salvo, Cat Simmons, Jennifer Tierney and Matthew Whennell-Clark.
The show recently announced it will close on Broadway on 18 September 2022 after 5 years at the Music Box Theatre. Come From Away is currently on stage in Australia, with two North American tours, and the Broadway and West End productions.
