The curtain is to come down on Broadway musicals Tina – The Tina Turner Musical and Dear Evan Hansen, with final performances set for 14 August 2022 and 18 September 2022 respectively.
Tina Turner said via Twitter “”Looking back on opening night on Broadway almost three years ago and remembering the love and support I received from my friends and the Broadway community is an experience I will not soon forget. It has been an honor and a privilege”.
Tina began previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway 12 October 2019 and officially opened on 7 November 2019. Performances were suspended 12 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed performances on 8 October 2021. Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will have played 27 previews and 482 regular performances.
Following the final performance on 14 August 2022 the show will embark on a 30 city US tour beginning this September.
Addrienne Warren originated the title role in the West End and on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical; the show has direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony van Laast.
Dear Evan Hansen posted on social media that its final performance at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway would be 18 September 2022. The announcement came less than two week after the West End production announced it would close at the Noel Coward Theatre in London.
The musical opened on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in December 2016 and will close on September 18, 2022, after 21 preview performances and 1,678 regular performances.
At the 71st Tony Awards, it was nominated for nine awards, winning six, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, Best Actor for Ben Platt, and Best Featured Actress for Rachel Bay Jones.
Dear Evan Hansen features a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif.
The final performance of Dear Evan Hansen at the Noel Coward Theatre is on 22 October 2022. The London production of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is currently booking to 18 December 2022.
