Broadway actress and American singer Keala Settle recently starred as Sister Mary Patrick in the brand new production of Sister Act The Musical at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith.
Other recent stage credits include playing the Nurse in & Juliet at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
She also originated the role of Norma Valverde in Broadway’s Hands on a Hardbody, in which she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. In 2016 she starred in the original Broadway cast of Waitress playing Becky; and other roles include Gypsy in Concert at Alexandra Palace, Les Miserables on Broadway as Madame Thenardier, Shirley in Priscilla Queen of the Desert on Broadway, and Tracy Turnblad in the US national tour of Hairspray.
On film, her break-out role was in 2017, playing Lettie Lutz, a bearded lady, in the global smash-hit musical film The Greatest Showman alongside Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya. The song “This Is Me” from the film, principally sung by Settle, won the 2018 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Other movies include All My Life, and Ricki and the Flash.
On TV, Settle sang “Seasons of Love” in Fox’s Rent: Live in 2019. Other TV credits include The Big C, Big Shot, Central Park and Murder in Provence.
