Les Mis director Laurence Connor tapped to direct; music and lyrics by KT Tunstall
Rumours are circling London theatreland that a new musical adaptation of movie Saving Grace, which starred Brenda Blethyn, is heading to the West End.
Laurence Connor (Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon) is tapped to direct.
Adapted by playwright April de Angelis, based on Craig Ferguson and Mark Crowdy’s original movie screenplay, Saving Grace The Musical has music and lyrics by BRIT Award winning Scottish singer songwriter KT Tunstall (Suddenly I See).
Is it getting a private reading on Friday 25 February 2022 organised by producer Bernie Wragg, who was previously Managing Director at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group, with a rumoured December 2022 off-West End try out.
At the reading Craig Ferguson is going to take the role of the banker, rather than the role of Matthew that he played in the movie, with West End actress Clare Burt as Grace Trevethy.
The 2000 movie was directed by Nigel Cole and starred Brenda Blethyn and Craig Ferguson. Set in Cornwall, the movie is about a middle aged widow whose irresponsible husband left her with huge debts, forcing her to grow cannabis in her greenhouse along with her gardener Matthew to avoid losing her house.
The movie also starred Martin Clunes, Diana Quick, Phyllida Law, Ken Campbell and Bill Bailey.
