Full casting has been announced for the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Funny Girl, starring Hollywood actress Beanie Feldstein as Fanny Brice and Broadway and West End star Ramin Karimloo as Nick Arnstein.
New cast members announced today include Peter Francis James as Florenz Ziegfeld, Ephie Aardema as Emma/Mrs. Nadler, Debra Cardona as Mrs. Meeker, Toni DiBuono as Mrs. Strakosh, Martin Moran as Tom Keeney, and Julie Benko as the standby for Fanny Brice. Previously announced cast members include Jared Grimes as Eddie Ryan, and Emmy winner Jane Lynch (Glee) as Mrs. Rosie Brice.
Fun fact, Beanie Feldstein made her Broadway debut as Minnie Fay in Bette Midler’s Hello, Dolly! so is no stranger to hoofing the boards, and we expect great things from this talented actress.
Rounding out the ensemble are Amber Ardolino, Daniel Beeman, Colin Bradbury, Kurt Thomas Csolak, Leslie Donna Flesner, Afra Hines, Masumi Iwai, Aliah James, Jeremiah James, Danielle Kelsey, Stephen Mark Lukas, Alicia Hadiya Lundgren, John Thomas Manzari, Liz McCartney, Katie Mitchell, Justin Prescott, Mariah Reives, and Leslie Blake Walker.
Funny Girl is about Lower East Side girl Fanny Brice, as she fights her way to fame in the midst of naysayers and the ups and downs of her tempestuous relationship with producer Nick Arnstein.
The revival of this show will get a revised book by Hairspray’s Harvey Fierstein, tweaking the original by Isobel Lennart. The music and lyrics, of course, are by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill.
The show is being produced by UK mega producer Sonia Friedman, plus Scott Landis and the Menier Chocolate Factory’s David Babani. The Menier put on the 2015 revival of the show starring Sheridan Smith as Fanny Brice, also directed by Michael Mayer, and which transferred to the Savoy Theatre. The show has not been revived on Broadway since Barbra Streisand starred in the original production 58 years ago. Tony winner Bartlett Sher attempted to revive the musical on Broadway with his My Fair Lady star Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), however this never materialised with producers blaming a shaky climate.Funny Girl will begin performances at the August Wilson Theatre in New York from 26 March 2022.
