Award-winning West End actress Maria Friedman is to headline a special series of concerts at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Titled Maria Friedman & Friends – Legacy, the show will tribute three great musicals composers: Stephen Sondheim, who died last year aged 91, Marvin Hamlisch and Michel Legrand.
The show will run at the Menier from 3 – 20 March 2022, and is co-produced by Friedman.
In a statement to the press, Maria said: “This event was brought about by a desire to sing, to share and to join together in celebration of some of the greatest composers of our time. These past two years have starved us of the connection and depth of emotion that brilliant music and song can evoke – and we want to bring that back in the beautifully intimate space at the Menier, and enable audiences to revel in the legacy of my much-missed friends, these extraordinary artists – Hamlisch, Legrand and Sondheim. I can’t wait to share it with you.”
The show’s musical director and pianist will be Theo Jamieson, and other performers include Matthew White, Ian McLarnon, Alfie Friedman, Desmonda Cathabel, and a choir from the Royal Academy of Music.
Songs featured in the concert will come from shows including Yentl, A Chorus Line, The Way We Were, Company, Follies and many more – including Broadway Baby, Send in the Clowns, A Piece Of Sky, At The Ballet and Nothing.
Maria Friedman is a triple Olivier Award winner, and her previous successful concert shows have included Maria Friedman Re-arranged – which transferred to the West End.
