Ria Jones and Sally Ann Triplett will reprise their roles as lifelong friends Lou and Peggy in Fourteen Again, a new musical built from Victoria Wood’s songbook as the production transfers to the Menier Chocolate Factory following its acclaimed premiere at the newly renamed Victoria Wood Theatre.

The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced the London premiere of Fourteen Again, the critically acclaimed production which ran at the Victoria Wood Theatre in Bowness-on-Windermere this spring. The London production will reunite Ria Jones and Sally Ann Triplett, who reprise their roles as Lou and Peggy. Both actors have previously worked alongside Victoria Wood: Triplett originated the role of Miss Berta in the original West End production of Acorn Antiques: The Musical!, while Jones played Mrs Overall in the first national tour of Acorn Antiques, which Wood directed herself.

The creative team includes Director Jonathan O’Boyle alongside Musical Supervisor, Arranger & Co-Orchestrator Nigel Lilley, Choreographer Sammy Murray, Set Designer Roger Glossop, Costume Designer Caroline Hughes, Lighting Designer Jason Taylor, Sound Designer Sam Glossop, Musical Director & Co-Orchestrator Archie McMorran and Associate Designer Caroline Dalton.

Further casting will be announced at a later date.

A tribute to Victoria Wood’s legacy

Victoria Wood (1953–2016) was one of Britain’s most beloved comedians, actresses, singer-songwriters and writers, celebrated for turning everyday British life into comedy gold across a career spanning more than four decades. She rose to fame after winning ITV talent show New Faces in 1974, and went on to create the era-defining sketch series Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, which spawned the cult hit Acorn Antiques and won multiple BAFTA Awards. Wood was also the first stand-up comedian to sell out the Royal Albert Hall, and remains widely regarded as a trailblazer who opened the door for a generation of female comedians who followed her.

Fourteen Again features music and lyrics by Victoria Wood, with additional lyrics from Tom MacRae. The story follows two former best friends, Peggy and Lou, who fortuitously reunite at a local slimming club. As children, no two friends were ever funnier or more fun, but now they find themselves shadows of their younger selves, in a story that looks back to the future, full of comedy, love and pain, propelled forward by Victoria Wood’s beloved songs.

The production was specially commissioned by Wood’s close friends and collaborators, producer Charlotte Scott and designer Roger Glossop.
