Nearly two decades after the final Harry Potter film wrapped, Rupert Grint is returning to the role of Ron Weasley, joining Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway for a strictly limited 17-week run.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has announced that Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley across all eight Harry Potter films, will join the Broadway production at the Lyric Theatre in the same iconic role.
Rupert Grint said, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life. There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting.
“The first time I saw Cursed Child onstage, I was blown away and I can’t wait to set foot back on Platform 9 ¾ and pick up where I left off. I am overjoyed to join this exceptional cast and crew at the Lyric Theatre this winter.”
He will appear in the production for a limited 17-week beginning Tuesday 2 February 2027.

Rupert Grint on Stage
Though he is best known for his portrayal of Ronald Weasley in the groundbreaking Harry Potter films, Grint has since taken to the stage. He made his Broadway debut in It’s Only a Play, opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane, and starred in Jez Butterworth’s Mojo in the West End, opposite Ben Whishaw, Brendan Coyle, Colin Morgan and Daniel Mays.
Other screen credits include M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant and Knock at the Cabin, and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
10 years of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
The play, set 19 years after the main events of the novels, celebrates 10 years in the West End this year. It’s currently booking until 20 September, after which it will close for a brief period and reopen in the reimagined one-part version currently running on Broadway.
The Broadway production has enjoyed a record-breaking year, thanks to the guest appearance from original Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton. Felton joined the cast in November 2025 and has since extended his run.
Unfortunately for die-hard Potter fans, the two actors won’t overlap. Tom Felton finishes his run on 3 January 2027 and Rupert Grint joins the cast from 2 February 2027.
