The National Theatre in London has announced full casting for the UK premiere of Tracey Scott Wilson’s newsroom drama The Story starring Letitia Wright and Lorraine Toussaint.
This adrenaline-fuelled examination of racial politics and journalistic ethics is directed by Clint Dyer, and running in the National’s Olivier Theatre this autumn from 27 August to 24 October 2026.
Meet the cast
Principal casting already announced includes BAFTA Award-winning film and stage star Letitia Wright (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) as Yvonne, with American star Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black) as Pat, Aliyah Odoffin (All My Sons) as Latisha, Wilf Scolding (Andor, Cabaret) as Jeff, and Ashley Thomas (Hostage) as Neil.
They will be joined by Antonia Bernath (Downton Abbey) as Jessica Dunn, Josh Goulding (Hangmen) as Tim Dunn, Jay Simpson (Black Mirror) as Detective, and Unique Spencer (Top Boy) as Adrienne.
Joining the ensemble are Arianne Carless (Museum of Us), Roland Royal III (Julius Caesar) and Matt Whitchurch (The Beautiful Future Is Coming) alongside the previously announced Tee Arnold (The Prince), Donna Augustin (St Mark’s), Reanna Bleu, Katie Buchholz (Deceit) and Linseigh Green (The Drifter’s Girl).
The UK premiere
Written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Tracey Scott Wilson (The Americans), this adrenaline-fuelled newsroom thriller is directed by Clint Dyer (Death of England, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest).
In The Story, ambitious newspaper reporter Yvonne Wilson (Letitia Wright) goes against her editor Pat Morgan (Lorraine Toussaint) to investigate the murder of a white teacher killed in a Black neighbourhood. Yvonne is also up against three other journalists, all racing to get the headline – at any cost. But when shocking new evidence pulls them into the dark heart of the case, they are each forced to confront what they’re prepared to risk to tell their version of the truth.
Joining Clint Dyer in the creative team for The Story are set designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Natalie Pryce, lighting designer Paul Anderson, sound designer Benjamin Grant, movement director Lucie Pankhurst, and co-video designers Gino Ricardo Green and Tal Yarden.
