The Royal Court Theatre and their Broadway producing partners Brian and Dayna Lee have announced casting for the European premiere of Archduke by Rajiv Joseph.

Meet the cast

The cast features an array of stage, screen and comedy stars, including:

  • Olivier Award-winner Chris Walley (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Young Offenders)
  • Abraham Popoola (Spider-Noir, Shiver)
  • Stanley Morgan (The Westies, The Little Foxes)
  • Janice Connolly (Phoenix Nights, Mrs Barbara Nice)
  • British Comedy Award and Rose d’Or Award winner Marc Wootton (Nativity!, Till the Stars Come Down)

Archduke also boasts a heavyweight creative team, led by director Lyndsey Turner (1536) and designer Es Devlin (The Lehman Trilogy).

Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) is a Pulitzer Prize finalist. His play is set in Belgrade in 1914, as three hungry young men are offered something to eat (and the chance to change the course of history). Their mission: kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand and set the century alight.

Archduke is billed as an irreverent reimagining of a pivotal moment in history, blending mounting tension with biting wit in a timely European premiere for an age of restless young men.
