Full casting has been revealed today for the National Theatre’s global phenomenon War Horse, which returns to its original home at the National Theatre’s Olivier Theatre this summer.
Based on the much-loved novel by Michael Morpurgo and adapted by Nick Stafford, the production will run from 16 May to 30 July 2026, marking nearly two decades since its world premiere on London’s South Bank.

Meet the 2026 Cast
The 35-strong cast is led by Tom Sturgess as Albert Narracott. He is joined by a massive ensemble of actors and world-class puppeteers from the Handspring Puppet Company.

The Global Smash Hit Returns
Originally directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, War Horse has become the most successful play in the National Theatre’s history. It has been seen by over 8.8 million people worldwide and won more than 25 major awards, including the Tony for Best Play.
This 2026 revival is created by Tom Morris with revival director Katie Henry, featuring the iconic life-sized puppets that have captivated audiences in over 100 cities.
