The King’s Head Theatre in London has announced casting for its world premiere production of In the Print.

The new drama, based on true events, is written by playwriting duo Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky, and follows their hit drama The Gang of Three.

The world premiere production of In the Print is playing at the King’s Head Theatre in London from 26 March to 3 May 2026.

This politically charged thriller is based on “The Battle of Wapping”, the year-long clash of wills in the mid-eighties between newspaper tycoon Rupert Murdoch and trade union head Brenda Dean.

Packed with treachery, secret plots, technological revolution and civil unrest, In the Print is directed by Josh Roche (The Forsyte Saga; My Name is Rachel Corrie).

In the Print features a cast of acclaimed West End and UK theatre actors including:

  • Alan Cox (Churchill in Moscow; Farm Hall) as Rupert Murdoch
  • Claudia Jolly (Girl from the North Country; Intimate Apparel) as Brenda Dean
  • Alasdair Harvey (Follies; The Little Big Things) as Andrew Neil
  • Georgia Landers (Power of Sail; Rock n Roll) as Joan Harrison
  • Jonathan Jaynes (Damned by Despair; A View From The Bridge) as Eric Hammond
  • Russell Bentley (Six Characters In Search Of An Author; Death of a Salesman) as Kelvin MacKenzie

What is the story?

In the mid-eighties Brenda Dean became the first woman to lead a major British trade union. But she quickly faced a crisis as Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch unleashed his clandestine plans to revolutionise the production of British newspapers.

With 5,000 jobs on the line and the future of both newspapers and her own trade union in the balance, Brenda decided to take on Murdoch and his growing global media empire.

As time runs out and Murdoch’s influence expands, can she pull together the combined might of the trade unions to bring him down?
