Blockbuster new TV drama Heated Rivalry could be getting a theatrical adaptation!
The HBO Max series, which originally aired on Canada’s Crave, has proved a massive hit, and is finally coming to UK screens on Sky and NOW from 10 January 2026.
Heated Rivalry is based on the original hockey book series “Game Changers” by Canadian romance novelist Rachel Reid.
On screen, Heated Rivalry stars Connor Storrie as Russian hockey star Ilya Rozanov, and Hudson Williams as his sporting nemesis Shane Hollander. Across six episodes, the drama tracks the two men carrying on a secret, years-long affair before eventually falling in love.
Reid was interviewed by Variety this week, and in a wide-ranging interview she told Variety that a Broadway musical version of Heated Rivalry may be on the cards.

Rachel Reid told Variety that she hopes there will be a Heated Rivalry The Musical, as she still holds the stage rights. “It was the thing that when I signed the contract, I was like, “Yeah, that’ll never happen.” But now I’m like, “Maybe.” We’re talking about all sorts of things right now. I was saying to Hudson a couple weeks ago that it feels like we could do literally anything.”
In connection with a stage adaptation, Reid joked about the weight of their newfound fame, saying, “it feels like we could do literally anything. It just seems like we have too much power and we also have the power to destroy ourselves very easily. We could take it all down with one bad post, one bad tweet. We could destroy the whole show and everybody’s lives. I was just like, “This is too much power.””

More about Heated Rivalry Season 2
Season Two of Heated Rivalry has already been greenlit by Crave, with HBO Max returning as the key international partner.
Rachel Reid teased in the Variety interview that Season 2 will remain focused on Ilya and Shane, based on the sequel novel The Long Game, rather than pivoting to a new couple. She also hopes to weave in the plot of her other book, Role Model.
Fan Favorites: Reid expressed surprise at the massive popularity of the supporting couple, Scott and Kip, and confirmed the creative team is looking for ways to give them more “screen time” (or stage time).
