Last night on Strictly Come Dancing, Paddington The Musical wowed audiences with a song from the hit new West End show.

Saturday 6 December saw Strictly Come Dancing showcase its annual Musicals Week, with the celebrity contestants dancing to hit West End and Broadway shows.

It was a tense night as the five remaining couples battled it out in the quarter-finals, for a prized place in next week’s semi-finals of the TV dance competition.

Paddington on Strictly

A highlight of last night’s show was the TV premiere of Paddington Bear from major new West End show Paddington The Musical.

The composer of the show, McFly’s Tom Fletcher, took to the piano to play a moving new song from the musical, ‘Explorer and The Bear’.

The surprise of the night was that Paddington Bear, played in the stage musical by James Hameed as the Off-stage Performer & Remote Puppeteer and Arti Shah as the On-stage Performer, also took to the Strictly dancefloor to duet with Tom.

Paddington The Musical is now playing in the West End, running at the Savoy Theatre in London. Also listen to more songs from Paddington.

Musicals featured on Saturday’s show

Musical numbers featured last night included ‘Never Enough’ from The Greatest Showman, danced by Balvinder Sopal and Julian; ‘The Point of No Return’ from The Phantom of the Opera, danced by George Clarke and Alexis; ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’ from Guys and Dolls, danced by Amber Davies and Nikita; ‘Dance At The Gym’ from West Side Story, danced by Lewis Cope and Katya; and ‘The Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity, danced by Karen Carney and Carlos.

West End star Amber Davies (Legally Blonde, The Great Gatsby) and her professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin (Nikita Kuzmin: Midnight Dancer) stunned the judges and audiences at home by getting a perfect score of 40 for their spectacular Charleston to the Guys and Dolls standard ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’.

Composer of The Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber, also appeared via video to support George and Alexis, who danced to his long-running musical.

Also, Balvinder Sopal and Julian visited the Empress Museum in London where hit London show Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular is playing, to get some inspiration from star of the show Simon Bailey for their Viennese Waltz to ‘Never Enough’ from The Greatest Showman.

Also watch Lewis Cope and Katya dance to ‘Dance At The Gym’ from West Side Story, and Karen Carney and Carlos perform to ‘The Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity.

A show-stopping musicals medley

The couples also faced a new, high-stakes dance challenge, with each pair dancing one after the other to a medley of show tunes. The songs included ‘Trip A Little Light Fantastic’ from Mary Poppins Returns; ‘With A Little Bit Of Luck’ from My Fair Lady; ‘Consider Yourself’ from Oliver!; ‘Flash Bang Wallop’ from Half A Sixpence; and ‘Me Ol’ Bamboo’ from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
