A major new musical by acclaimed musician and songwriter KT Tunstall is getting its world premiere in 2026.
The Singer promises to be a thrilling gig-theatre drama about Joe, a deaf artist who “sings” with his hands, and Andy, a washed-up musician hungry for a comeback.
As their unlikely partnership ignites something extraordinary, ambition, betrayal and belonging collide in this powerful story of music, identity and the fight to be heard.
Written by Cora Bissett with Jamie Rea, the songs for the show are all by multi-award-winning artist KT Tunstall (Suddenly I See).
The show premieres at Dundee Rep in Scotland in late July 2026, and then plays the Traverse Theatre during the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, the Lemon Tree Theatre in Aberdeen, before returning to Dundee Rep in September 2026.
The Singer is a Dundee Rep Theatre and Solar Bear production, in collaboration with Aberdeen Performing Arts and the Traverse Theatre.
The Singer is part of Dundee Rep’s new season for 2026 which also includes anticipated new musical The High Life, starring Alan Cumming, Forbes Masson, Siobhan Redmond and Patrick Ryecart; a revival of Willy Russell’s award-winning comedy drama Educating Rita; Tony Roper’s Scottish classic The Steamie; A History of Paper by Oliver Emanuel and Gareth Williams (The 306 Trilogy) in a major new production starring Alan Cumming and Shirley Henderson; and Christmas hit The Snow Queen, created by Noisemaker.
KT Tunstall’s other shows include Clueless The Musical, based on the movie, which premiered at the West End’s Trafalgar Theatre earlier this year.
