This haunting new drama explored the cracks in community — and what seeped through them. Written by Tony Craze Award winner Farah Najib and directed by Jess Barton, the production was a gripping examination of isolation, resilience and the ties that hold us together when everything else falls apart.

Produced by Jessie Anand Productions in association with the Bush Theatre, this world premiere asked what it really takes to build community when the system fails.

The cast included Sam Baker Jones (Dear England, Trigger Point), Safiyya Ingar (King Troll, Brides) and Marcia Lecky (Anna Karenina, The House of Bernarda Alba).

As the stench in their building intensifies and infestations spread, a lonely group of tenants begins to ask questions. When the housing association barely lifts a finger and pest control “don’t deal with maggots,” the neighbours are forced to face their fears — and each other.

Blurring the lines between public and private, Maggots explores human connection and collective survival in the face of neglect. With razor-sharp writing and an unsettling intimacy, Farah Najib’s debut is a bold and urgent piece of new theatre that exposes the cracks in society — and what crawls through them.
