Closing in the West End: Major shows leaving London soon – from Evita to Tina

In just over six weeks, London’s Theatreland will wave goodbye to nine high‑profile productions — hit musicals and buzzy plays alike — as limited runs expire and venues reset for autumn. Here’s what’s closing, when, and why you should catch them while you can.

Why the mass exodus?

Late summer is traditionally turnover time in the West End: event runs finish, tours spin off, and theatres clear the decks for star-led autumn openings and Christmas juggernauts.

This year, that churn is unusually concentrated — nine top-tier titles, plus lots of other major shows, wrap between now and 13 September. The mix of new comedies, classic drama, jukebox and film-to-stage musicals shows how producers are using West End slots strategically: short, high-impact seasons that maximise buzz then move on.

Mrs Warren’s Profession

Mrs Warren’s Profession (Play) — Garrick Theatre — Final performance 16 August

Dominic Cooke’s revival of Shaw’s once-banned morality play Mrs Warren’s Profession pairs Imelda Staunton with real-life daughter Bessie Carter and finishes at the Garrick Theatre on 16 August 2025. The play also reunites Staunton and Cooke after their musical escapades on Hello, Dolly! and Follies.

Clueless The Musical

Clueless The Musical — Trafalgar Theatre — Final performance 23 August

The classic 90s teen movie-to-stage adaptation of Clueless posted early closing notices for 23 August, meaning that audiences have only a few weeks left to enjoy this fast-paced, fun, and beautifully performed new musical, with a score by pop supremo KT Tunstall.

101 Dalmatians The Musical

101 Dalmatians The Musical — Eventim Apollo Theatre — Final performance 30 August

There are only a few weeks left to see Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas give her fiercest Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians: The Musical, ably assisted by TV presenter Jeff Brazier as Casper, and JLS’ Aston Merrygold (The Wizard of Oz) as Jasper.

Mischief’s latest farce The Comedy About Spies (they are the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong) only came to the West End for a strictly limited season, but has made quite an impact on both critics and audiences. Cleverly done, slickly performed, and genuinely funny – don’t miss it.

Evita (Musical) — London Palladium — Final performance 6 September

Jamie Lloyd’s radical reimagining of the Tim Rice / Andrew Lloyd-Webber classic Evita, starring Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler, is a limited summer engagement at the London Palladium, booking until 6 September 2025. By far the buzziest and biggest break-out hit of the summer, possibly of 2025, it’s hard to imagine that its 6 September end date is the last we will see of Jamie Lloyd’s production, but you never know…

Burlesque The Musical

Burlesque The Musical — Savoy Theatre — Final performance 6 September

After sold-out out-of-town dates, the stage version of the cult and camp Christina Aguilera film Burlesque is playing the Savoy Theatre for a limited season to 6 September only. It has divided opinion, although critics have mostly enjoyed this sassy, sexy musical, rebooted by Todrick Hall.

The Great Gatsby: A New Musical — London Coliseum — Final performance 7 September

Wait, it’s not just playing forever? The Great Gatsby has settled in nicely in the West End, and the feedback we’ve had from theatregoers has generally been shock when they find out it’s only in London for the summer. This Broadway-originated, Tony-winning adaptation is playing at the London Coliseum until 7 September 2025.

Fawlty Towers

Fawlty Towers – The Play (Play) — Apollo Theatre — Final performance 13 September

John Cleese’s hilarious stage mash-up of three of his classic Fawlty Towers sitcom episodes has returned for a second West End stint, running until 13 September before heading out on a UK & Ireland tour.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical — Aldwych Theatre — Final performance 13 September

After seven riotous years at the Aldwych Theatre, the award-winning bio-musical Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will give its final, powerhouse London performance on 13 September, with Fleur East and Karis Anderson sending the show off as Tina Turner.
