Joe Locke, Ruaridh Mollica and Sophie Melville to star in Clarkston at the Trafalgar Theatre this September 2025
Venue and dates have been announced for the UK premiere of Clarkston by Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale), coming to London this autumn.
Clarkston will star Joe Locke (Heartstopper, Agatha All Along, Sweeney Todd), Ruaridh Mollica (Sebastian, The Franchise) and Sophie Melville (The Way, Cowbois, Iphigenia in Splott).
The production was announced earlier this month, and producers have now confirmed that Clarkston will run at the West End’s Trafalgar Theatre in London, from 17 September to 22 November 2025.
Clarkston first premiered in 2015 at the Dallas Theater Center in the US. The play has won a New Play Award from the Edgerton Foundation, with previous winners including Next to Normal.
Directed by Drama Desk Award-winner Jack Serio (Uncle Vanya, Grangeville), Clarkston is billed as an emotionally intimate American play,
In the play, Jake is on a journey West to rediscover himself and unexpectedly meets Chris – a kindred soul hiding in a night shift at a Costco in a rural American town. As their bond deepens, so does their sense of adventure. Maybe they could finally give life new meaning by chasing something more – like the intrepid explorers Lewis and Clark before them. Clarkston is a modern frontier story that blazes a trail through friendship, acceptance, love and the hope of new discoveries.
Clarkston will be Joe Locke’s return to London theatre, after the actor previously starred in The Trials at the Donmar Warehouse in 2022. Locke went on to win the Best Professional Debut Performance award at the 2023 Whatsonstage Awards.
Last year Joe Locke made his Broadway debut in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He is currently filming the final installment of hit Netflix series Heartstopper, which will be a TV movie. Locke’s co-star in Heartstopper is Kit Connor, who recently starred in Romeo + Juliet on Broadway alongside Rachel Zegler (Evita).
Currently playing at the Trafalgar Theatre is Clueless The Musical, until 23 August 2025.
