The first single has dropped from Jamie Lloyd’s blockbuster reimagining of Evita – now playing at the London Palladium.

Star of the show Rachel Zegler, who plays former Argentine First Lady Eva Perón in the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, features on the first single, singing Act Two opening anthem ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’.

Alongside a studio version of the classic song, the digital version also features an alternate version of ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ featuring Rachel Zegler singing the song live from the balcony outside of the London Palladium – where she performs the song every night to crowds outside the theatre.

The ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ single is now available on streaming, including Spotify, Amazon, YouTube and Apple Music. You can listen here.

The release of Zegler’s rendition of ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ gained support on Spotify’s Broadway Hits, All New Pop, and New Music Friday playlists, Apple Music’s New Music Daily, and topped the UK Soundtrack chart on iTunes.

A video has also been released, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of rehearsals for Evita, and Rachel Zegler singing ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’.

The single was first released last week as an exclusive blue 7″ vinyl, which is now available for purchase. Upon its release the vinyl hit No. 1 in the Official UK Vinyl Singles Chart, above Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

There’s still no news of a date for the release of the full casting recording of Evita.

Evita opened at the London Palladium last week, with near‑unanimous five‑star reviews from London critics.
