The new musical from Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz is opening on Broadway this autumn

A new teaser trailer is out for new Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles starring Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham.

The show starts previews on 8 October 2025, with an opening night on 9 November, at the St. James Theatre in New York.

The Queen of Versailles is based on Lauren Greenfield’s multi-award-winning 2012 documentary film, featuring the life stories of Jackie and David Siegel; and

The show boasts music and lyrics are by Oscar-winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), with a book by Lindsey Ferrentino, and direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden.

The musical has already enjoyed a record-breaking out-of-town run at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre last summer.

The Queen of Versailles stars Tony and Emmy Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) as Jackie, and Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus) as David, with further casting to be announced.

Joining Michael Arden in the creative team are: music direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, and direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden. Additionally, the production will include scenic & video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Christian Cowan, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, hair & wig design by Cookie Jordan, orchestrations by John Clancy, and casting by Stephen Kopel, CSA & Carrie Gardner, CSA at C12 Casting. Baseline Theatrical will serve as General Manager and Clarissa Marie Ligon will serve as Production Stage Manager.

The Queen of Versailles explores the true cost of fame, fortune, and family.

From computer engineer to Mrs. Florida to billionairess, Jackie Siegel sees herself as the embodiment of the American Dream. Now, as the wife of David “The Timeshare King” Siegel and mother of their eight children, they invite us to behold their most grandiose venture yet: they’re building the largest private home in America in Orlando, Florida – a $100 million house big enough for her dreams and inspired by the Palace of Versailles. But with the Great Recession of 2008 looming, Jackie and David’s dreams begin to crumble, along with their lavish lifestyle.

West End and Broadway producer Sonia Friedman recently joined the production. Her current shows on Broadway include Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which transferred from London, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Friedman’s current West End productions include Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Stereophonic, and Mrs Warren’s Profession. Forthcoming projects include Paddington The Musical.

Other producers include Bill Damaschke, Seaview, and Kristin Chenoweth.
