The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, a new musical adapted from the classic romantic novel by Josephine Leslie, is eyeing a full production in 2026.
In the lead up, the show will run a second workshop in May, this time starring Obioma Ugoala (Disney’s Frozen, Hamilton) as Captain Gregg, and Laura Pitt-Pulford (Standing at the Sky’s Edge, The Light Princess) as Mrs. Muir, with Olivier Award-nominated Preeya Kalidas (Bombay Dreams) as Martha, and Olivier Award-nominated Sharif Afifi (The Band’s Visit, Hadestown) as Miles.
The cast also includes Julie Armstrong (Follies) as Eva, Patrick Clancy (Young Frankenstein) as Mr. Coombe, Connor Ewing (The Phantom of the Opera) as Cyril Muir, and Rowan Macpherson (Babies) as Anna Muir.
Music and lyrics are by Carmel Dean (Well-Behaved Women), the book is by novelist and playwright Penelope Faith, and the workshop is directed by Kenneth Hoyt.
The producers announced last July that they had signed up Carmel Dean to write the show. Carmel was the music director and arranger of Funny Girl on Broadway, and musical supervisor of Broadway’s The Notebook.
The 1945 novel is about the romance between a young widowed mother and the ghost of a sea captain, leading them to find liberation from grief and loneliness.
